A serious road accident in 2006 led Vanguard Ambassador Peter Lewis into photography where he developed a passion for Scottish wildlife, especially Mountain Hares.
In 2019 Peter and a friend were taking some nature shots when they found three red fox cubs. They returned a few times to photograph the wild animals from a distance, but when they found the mother dead on a nearby road they felt that they had to step in and help them develop the skills they would need to take care of themselves, including running through the field with bits of chicken on a string to teach the foxes to hunt. As well as saving the foxes and leaving them capable of fending in the wild, it allowed them to form a bond that they have documented, with some intimate shots that are only possible with this level of trust.
